Self-Care in the Summer

One of the most important aspects of self-care that I have now put into place on a more regular basis, particularly during the summer months now that the sun is much warmer, is wearing a hat, which I have a mixed relationship with for a multitude of reasons. I have always looked after my skin, but my awareness of how important it is to do so at this time of my life has deepened, and it isn’t just from an anti-ageing perspective but also for medical reasons. In my 25 years as an MLD therapist, working predominantly with patients in recovery from cancer, I learnt about the significance of skincare and, in particular, knowing what our skin looks and feels like.

“Our external environment has an impact that is essential to be aware of, especially as we move into this next stage of our life.”

Rachel Podger

It goes without saying that drinking plenty of water and taking supplements can support our body internally. Still, our external environment has an impact that is essential to be aware of, especially as we move into this next stage of our life. I am now the very proud owner of a beautiful straw hat and am embracing both the sense of freedom and protection this gives me.  It really is the little things and my relationship to them that contribute to an overall sense of well-being, and the surprise is that wearing a hat can be fun after all!
