Memory and the Menopause

Memory and the Menopause

I used to feel so proud of my memory and could hold all sorts of things in my mind. One of the first things that I noticed about being menopausal was the change in my memory. Mindfulness has definitely helped me manage this change, and with this, I find acceptance of the fact that I live from lists. I have also discovered my practice of self-compassion has helped my approach to and perception of this change.

“Nowadays, I find myself apologising regularly and softening towards myself.”

Rachel Podger

I found it frightening to start with as my mind took me down alleyways of despair of what this could mean. Nowadays, I find myself apologising regularly and softening towards myself. This helps me go gently, and when I remember to breathe and slow down, I find myself remembering more! At the time of writing, Tiger and Mark are off to Battersea Park without her wearing a collar because I forgot to give it to him. I’ve asked him to explain this to her and hope she will listen; she is a very good listener, so there is every chance all will be well.
