New Beginnings

Whilst doing some breathing exercises yesterday, I unexpectedly found a deeper connection to the meaning and feeling of inner stillness. I discovered that when I allowed myself to follow my breath, there was a moment between each where I experienced a complete stillness and an opportunity to begin again. I remembered this when I found my mind busy with thoughts and frustrations once more. In doing so, I was able to breathe into and reconnect to the stillness of yesterday. I found this soothing and reassuring, and it helped me come back into my heart and feel joy once more.

“I tell myself that it isn’t wrong to get caught in thoughts; it is perfectly natural and normal, especially at busy times.”

Rachel Podger

I tell myself that it isn’t wrong to get caught in thoughts; it is perfectly natural and normal, especially at busy times. The most important thing is to be gentle and kind when I find myself on this well-trodden road. Often, I remember a few words from a poem by Rumi - they bring me back to inner stillness, no matter how far I have gone on this journey.“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” There is always time and space for new beginnings and developing new ways of being, and I hope that this new year brings joy, loving-kindness, self-compassion, health, inner stillness, and peace to each and every one of us.
