A Helping Hand From Nature

A Helping Hand From Nature

My last two video recordings have been in woodland where I shared my love and passion for taking time to walk, pause and connect with both the trees and earth.  When I stop and take myself into the state of being with them, I feel restored, recharged and reenergised; essential at any time of life and particularly so at this stage in my life and this time of year.  I am aware that my body feels younger and uplifted and I feel a sense of childlike awe at the vastness of Nature and all that it holds for me. I was reminded of this feeling whilst out for a walk this morning when I was struck by the contrast of the rain filled grey sky and the golden brown leaves that created a soggy yet beautiful carpet on top of the earth.  I felt Nature give me a helping hand that lifted my spirit and help me begin my day on a positive and more energised note.  It was much needed as I woke up feeling tired due to broken sleep, which is a side effect of the menopause that I experience from time to time.

“Nature and in particular the trees at this time of change, remind me to pause and be with myself as I am, not where I think I should be.”

Rachel Podger

I notice that if I wake up feeling tired, I feel rejuvenated after a walk, particularly one that is a little slower than normal and this gives me a chance to be more mindful.  I know that some women I talk to find that a run or brisk walk can help them in these moments of weariness but I find this demands more of my adrenals, which in turn leaves me more drained and often in pain. Nature and in particular the trees at this time of change, remind me to pause and be with myself as I am, not where I think I should be.  The rhythm and beauty of this connection enhances the feeling of opportunity that my menopausal body allows me if I pause for long enough to come home to it, time and time again.
