Giving space to feelings of heaviness

At moments over this past week, I have felt particularly heavy and weighed down, and I’ve allowed these feelings to dampen down my playfulness and light-heartedness. I know these qualities help me through more challenging and darker times, yet I feel both unable and unwilling to access them.

By acknowledging and giving space to this heaviness, I became aware of my feelings of sadness and anger, which were about a number of things I had pushed away.

Once more, I remembered my mindfulness practice and how important it is for my physical, spiritual and emotional well-being to acknowledge my thoughts and feelings, to keep myself free to make healthy choices and to respond rather than react.

My heavy heart feels lighter, and in the future I will draw on this experience to help pick myself up in times of despair and helplessness and remember that the wisdom of age is always at my fingertips; I just need to remember to breathe and access it …
