Sounds of the Stream

Sounds of the Stream

Today I stopped by a stream and listened to the sound of the water as it raced over a small weir. I have recorded this as I felt so connected and empowered by it. During the day I had listened to the heavy rain and howling wind outside and hadn’t realised the extent of the quantity of water that this would have caused to cascade down-stream. At the time, I was thankful I was inside, warm and cosy and remembered how important I find the balance between relaxing inside and being active and engaged with the force and power of nature when outside. I find that walking in nature is a way to relax and release any energy that has built up as tension or even anxiety in my body. I notice that as I breathe and connect to trees and today to the stream, the empowerment that I felt from the water was energising and uplifting.

“I feel more relaxed and better for moving and feeling the air on my face and the ground beneath my feet.”

Rachel Podger

I was tired but more able to be with the tiredness, and as I write about this experience, I remember the smell of the earth and the sound of the soaking wet leaves on the muddy ground.  The light faded as the darkness enveloped the sky, and although I couldn’t see the ground beneath me, I could feel my feet and embody the strength that came up through my body from this connection.  I felt relieved and with this released a sigh of gratitude and a smile from deep within came across my face, and I allowed myself to immerse in the joy of my night-time adventure of connection with all of the elements of nature.I know from experience the moment I step outside and take a breath of air, I feel more relaxed and better for moving and feeling the air on my face and the ground beneath my feet. Tiger always brings a smile to my face, and I am grateful for her companionship and love of the outdoors. It really is a wonderful way to restart or end a day.
