Meditation
I spent some time on the beach this week. As I stood and listened to the sea, I recorded the sounds of the waves to share as a short meditation. I found my experience both refreshing and relaxing; it took me back to a time when I was first introduced to meditation. I was given the sound of the sea as a means of relaxing to connect to the waves and the flow of my breath. I reflected back to that time and recalled how lost and alone I felt. My breath wasn’t something I felt connected to, and meditation was a strange and arduous task. My inner world wasn’t where I found comfort as my thoughts were too demanding and I wanted to push them away, so I dipped in and out of meditation.

In hindsight, I wish I had been guided to simply sit and listen to the sounds and notice when my thoughts took me away and to gently and with loving-kindness bring myself back, and, with a clear mind, observe how busy a frightened mind can be of the unknown. If you have time to listen to the sounds of the sea, I hope you find it gives you a moment to refresh and reset yourself in this time of outer turmoil.
